Field Notes
Shooting at Spencer Smith Park and Burlington Village.
Burlington's lakefront is one of the easiest locations I shoot. The promenade at Spencer Smith Park is flat with almost no stairs, so couples in long outfits or heels can actually move between spots. I usually start at the water. The curve of Brant Street Pier gives me a clean line with nothing but Lake Ontario behind it, and the wind off the lake does half the work with hair and hems.
Then I walk five minutes into the village, and that short walk is the whole reason I bring couples here. Brant Street has painted-railing porches and brick storefronts, and the mood softens completely without anyone moving a car.
Vikrant and Sahib's session is the one I think of. Burlington was the second act of their pre-wedding day. They changed into matching blue stripes and the village pulled them somewhere lighter. There is a frame at a small green cafe table where Sahib cups her own face in her hands, grinning at Vikrant across the table. You can see exactly how she looks at him when no one is around. They finished back at the water in black, the lake gone pale grey, Sahib's cheek resting on Vikrant's shoulder at the railing, looking straight into the lens.
Practical notes. Parking is municipal lots and meters on Lakeshore Road and Brant Street, and on summer weekends they fill fast, so arrive early. Organized sessions need a City of Burlington photography contract, roughly $103 to $145 per 90-minute block depending on residency, booked through the city's Live and Play system. Sort that out before the date, not after.
