Choosing the right location is one of the most important decisions for your pre-wedding shoot. The backdrop sets the mood, the lighting creates the magic, and the right spot can make the difference between good photos and incredible ones.

After years of shooting across Toronto and the GTA, here are our absolute favourite locations for pre-wedding and engagement sessions.

1. RC Harris Water Treatment Center

Vibe: Cinematic, romantic, Art Deco architecture meets waterfront

This Scarborough landmark is one of the most stunning photography locations in all of Toronto. The combination of grand Art Deco architecture and Lake Ontario views creates a dramatic, almost European feel that photographs beautifully.

Best time to shoot: Late afternoon for golden hour light hitting the building’s facade. The waterfront side catches sunset perfectly.

Parking: Free street parking until 4pm. Arrive early on weekends because this spot is popular.

Pro tip: Bring comfortable shoes. There’s a lot of walking between the building exterior, the curved road, and the waterfront spots. The wind off the lake can be strong, so plan your outfit accordingly.

2. Toronto Music Garden

Vibe: Whimsical, romantic, garden meets city

Nestled along the Harbourfront, the Music Garden is a hidden gem that offers incredible variety in a small area. From winding garden paths to open waterfront views, you can get a dozen different looks without walking far.

Best time to shoot: Early morning on weekdays for fewer crowds. Weekend mornings work too, but expect visitors by 10am.

Pro tip: The garden is designed in sections inspired by Bach’s music. Each section has a different character, and the winding hedge maze area is perfect for intimate close-ups.

3. Guild Park & Gardens

Vibe: Fairytale, historic ruins, romantic gardens

Guild Park feels like stepping into another world. The scattered architectural ruins from demolished Toronto buildings create a one-of-a-kind backdrop that looks like a European destination, right here in Scarborough.

Best time to shoot: Golden hour. The columns and stone walls catch warm light beautifully. Spring and fall are particularly stunning with the garden in bloom or changing colours.

Pro tip: The main ruins area is compact but offers incredible variety. Plan for 2-3 hours to explore all the nooks and angles.

4. Scarborough Bluffs

Vibe: Dramatic, coastal, wide-open sky

If you want that “destination beach” feel without leaving Toronto, the Bluffs deliver. The towering cliffs and sandy beach create a landscape that looks nothing like the rest of the city.

Best time to shoot: Sunset. The west-facing beach catches golden light perfectly. Arrive 2 hours before sunset to get beach shots and cliff-top shots.

Important note: Getting down to the beach requires a hike. Wear shoes you can walk in and save your formal shoes for the beach. The path is steep and can be slippery.

5. University of Toronto (St. George Campus)

Vibe: Classic, historic, European-inspired academia

UofT’s St. George campus is arguably the most versatile location on this list. Gothic stone buildings, ivy-covered walls, modern architecture, and quiet courtyards all within walking distance of each other.

Best time to shoot: Weekends when campus is quieter. Late afternoon light through the stone archways is gorgeous.

Pro tip: Knox College and University College are the most photogenic buildings. Hart House circle offers a great mix of architecture and greenery.

6. TD Dominion Centre / King Street

Vibe: Urban, modern, cinematic street photography

For couples who love the city, downtown Toronto’s financial district offers sleek, modern backdrops that photograph beautifully, especially at night. The Mies van der Rohe-designed TD towers are iconic.

Best time to shoot: Golden hour for warm light on glass buildings, or blue hour for moody urban vibes. Weekends for quieter streets.

Pro tip: King Street West has great variety, from the modern TD Centre to the older brick buildings and narrow side streets. Mix urban with greenery at nearby St. James Park.
